Santa Cruz Pot Grow Bust Nets 5 Arrests

SANTA CRUZ (BCN) ― Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office detectives on Thursday arrested six men suspected of growing and selling marijuana and seized more than 1,000 plants worth between $180,000 and $300,000.

Detectives searched search warrants at multiple locations throughout the county and arrested six suspects for possession of marijuana for sale, conspiracy, and marijuana cultivation, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives also seized more than 1,000 marijuana plants and $6,000 in cash from the suspects.

The suspects arrested are Jonathan Schantz, 28; Brendan Collins, 25; Daniel Hatch, 21; Casey Robinson, 28; Joseph Olivo, 27; and Alan Islit, 39.

Search warrants were executed at five properties belonging to Schantz, including homes in Santa Cruz, Live Oak and Bonny Doon, a property on Swanton Road near Davenport and Schantz's business on South Rodeo Gulch Road in Santa Cruz. At three of Schantz's properties, deputies found large-scale commercial marijuana cultivations.

Schantz had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for marijuana transportation and sales, according to the sheriff's office.
